Big thanks to Dan Sharp and co at Screaming Frog for letting us give away a full license to their awesome SEO Spider software. Thanks to everyone that entered the competition!
On top of this, I've put together a full tutorial that showcases some of the ways that you can use Screaming Frog SEO Spider to boost the performance of your on-page SEO, find link building opportunities and also improve user experience across the site. Check it out in the video below!
I never win anything, still participated. 😀
I can hear the violins playing out for you now, Rohit. Haha! Maybe lady luck will be in your favour this time.
Such an awesome contest!!!
I use Screaming Frog in tandem with MOZ. MOZ provides a snapshot of how my errors have progressed over the past few months, but Screaming Frog gives me much greater flexibility in what I pull and what I filter out.
That’s the beauty of Screaming Frog, it has so much synergy with other tools. On its own it’s a powerful tool, but when you combine it with ScrapeBox, Moz, Majestic, Followerwonk, SEO Tools for Excel, etc… That’s when you’re going to reap the rewards.
If you haven’t check it out already then give this tutorial a quick read – http://findmyblogway.com/link-prospecting/
I love the use of that image!
Haha – I spent ages looking for the perfect Kermit photo… that search didn’t disappoint!
It was a tough decision between this one and the one I used…
Hihi, this one even better 🙂 Saving the tutorial to watch later. Thanks a lot for the giveaway. I used the free version of Screaming Frog and was really impressed how many errors I could find, especially on bigger websites.
Ha! Great use of Kermit for your own branding, very clever. We currently use the free version of ScreamingFrog for website auditing, I use it frequently for tweaking e-commerce systems and improving on-site structure for e-commerce SEO. Invaluable 🙂
Thanks, Martin 🙂 I used to use the free version for a long time but once you start working on large-scale sites, you have to use the paid option. I’m also a big fan for e-commerce sites – the on-page SEO audits that I will often run for clients will usual revolve around Screaming Frog.
The most powerful part of the tool in my opinion is the advanced filters that can be used for link prospecting, backlink analysis and competitive research. Overall, such a good tool.
Yeah I really like the review system in place on this blog myself. Very clean looking!
Hopefully I’ll win, as my license expires soon and I could really do with a good tutorial. Here’s hoping.
First time I’ve filled out a Rafflecopter, I like it. I dislike that you left out a video transcript for SEO reasons 😉
Victor Pan! Long time no speak – hope Amelia’s keeping you on your toes haha! Seriously though – congrats on becoming a Dad 🙂
I actually had to rush this video out so I’m having a transcript written as we chat – should be on the site within the next few days. Also, Rafflecopter is awesome. If you didn’t check out my ‘unlitmate guide to running online competitions’ then check it out because I go all through a few different competition tools (http://findmyblogway.com/running-online-competitions/).
Ooh lovely! Does it come with a free Kermit?
Unfortunately not, Nicole 🙁 Maybe I’ll get a Kermit giveaway going next month haha!
Oh snap! 😉
Hi Matthew!
Great thanks for such a competition 😉
I like at your blog that you’re not shy to teach us with something new or something different. Also I like tutes and guidelines =)
I dislike the colorscheme of your blog. Sorry but sometimes I want to cut my eyes =))))
Thanks for the feedback, Tom. Yeah, I’ve spent quite a bit of time thinking about the colour scheme because it’s not the most exciting!
something I like? The opportunity to win a free license for software I buy every year. Something I dislike? Having to jump through all these hoops before I can even read it. I’m on my android and have yet to be able to get to the post and read it! All this liking, plussing and commenting seems to be necessary to unlock the content from my phone? Is that right?
after my comment the triangle became visible to play the video…
No worries – sorry, the page is full of interactive content you it might be a little laggy!
What I like – Kermit Yay!
What I dislike – the annoying popup asking for my email when you already have an email box just above the comments section.
Thanks for the feedback, Brandon. Yeh, I’ve been in a bit of a dilemma with the pop-up – I find it annoying on other sites when I have a pop-up asking me stuff and always click away from it. The thing is, I actually get a LOT of email subscriptions from this one (it has a conversion rate of around 3%), so a lot of people actually do respond to it.
I think I’m going to tweak it so that it shows up after a longer period of time, maybe 30 seconds that I know the user is actually engaged on the site.
Thanks again!
Great thanks! Hope I’ll get it thou 🙂
What I like: No BS content and clean design.
What I dislike: Adsense in header. Does that earn you enough to offset the fact that it’s lame?
Hey Ben, thanks for the feedback! It really doesn’t make much cash really. If I’m honest.. when I was developing the site I planned on putting a banner of some sort there and the Adsense banner was a temporary solution – looks like I need to get a move on and sort it out!
Great givewaway! You shouldn’t lack for takers on Screaming Frog, which most of us use everyday.
What I like about your site: Other than Kermit & the giveaway, I love the red on white color scheme and the big, bold social media buttons.
What I dislike: Popup, subscription box below content, subscription box on sidebar, Sign Up for Updates – there’re just a LOT of “subscribe” options for one page.
Hey Matt – thanks. Glad that you like the colour scheme, it’s something that I’ve been unsure of for a while. I think that I may be taking conversion a little far on some of the pages haha – the pop-up has been a particular worry for me. Food for thought.
Just began using screaming frog, and it’s proven very effective.
Hi Matthew,
I am following your blog since 1 month now and I
must say that I have learnt a lot. Specially when it comes to technical
SEO aspects and how your posts are inclined towards saving a lot of time
for bloggers. I like the theme of your blog. Simple, intuitive and
attractive. You, Charles, and other Brit (Mr. Woodward) can be named as
“The 3 Musketeers” of the SEO world.
Thanks,
Akbar
Haha! Love it. Glad you’ve been finding my content useful 🙂
Hello Matthew , I just came first time on your blog through searching for SEO Plugins. and came to know screaming frog is kind of best plugin. Never tried it but just clicked on link to get the free version.
I like the layout of the blog, I think the contest entry form can be designed a bit better
– Appreciate your in-depth tutorial videos.
– Would like to see followup videos to cover features transitioning from novice, intermediate to advanced
Screaming Frog is my favorite SEO tool and it saves hell lot of time.
Cool blog. I like how easy it is to navigate, great job – very organized. Couldn’t really think of anything I didn’t like about your blog, except for maybe the amount of sign up options found throughout the blog, such as the signup for the latest tutorials; though, I guess that is on par with most blogs. Keep up the good work, cheers!
i like : your blog design and fast loading
i dont like your domain : very long domain name
thank you for your giveaway and ihope i will be the winner.. spirit
Like: Fast loading and the red design. I love red!
Dislike: The red background on the title.
Great Tutorial!
grt! thanx used to use the free version for a long time but once you start working on large-scale sites, you have to use the paid option.one should have spider license.

heya Matthew. this is the best SEO tool for keywords and tracking. I am using since 1 month and learning it. Really looks awesome. Hoping to get one license 🙂
I actually already have a Screaming Frog license and I’m hoping to extend it another year 🙂
Thing I like: the plethora of useful content 🙂
Thing I dislike: the menu is a bit confusing, think it could be structured better; oh yeah and the domain name is not the best choice, brand-wise
Thanks for the shared this informative post with us..
